DSC Recognition Event

2017

Employer of the Year

Dish Passionate Cuisine

Dish Passionate Cuisine is being recognized for their outstanding efforts to help create success for their business, but as importantly, are also invested in the long-term careers of those they hire.  Their belief supports DSC’s mission, “DSC supports people to live a rich and meaningful life.” Recognizing Colleen’s success working with many different individuals from DSC, we asked Dick Montgomery, DSC Employment Specialist, what he feels Colleen does best. Dick shared, “Colleen LISTENS!” He went on to express Colleen’s ability to communicate with her employees, and specifically, the people working with her from DSC. Dick said, “She’s not afraid to have real expectations of our workers. She’s not afraid to speak directly to them, lay her expectations on the table, as she would with any other staff.” Congratulations to Dish Passionate Cuisine and thank you for your commitment to our community!

Public Service Award

Fraternal Order of Police: Illini Lodge 17

This award is not given on an annual basis; it is only given when a group has made a significant impact on the lives of individuals or families who receive DSC’s services. Illini Lodge 17 is being recognized for their commitment to children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in our community. Illini Lodge 17 has impacted DSC for many years in three different ways: through the donation of food baskets, the donation of car seats, and providing full scholarships for adults with disabilities to attend camp. Thank you for your commitment to DSC!

Special Recognition Award

Richard Montgomery

This award is not given on an annual basis; it is only given when a recipient stands out above the rest and Dick is one of those people! Dick is being recognized for his unwavering commitment and success in assisting individuals served at DSC to secure community employment. During the past 13 years, Dick has helped people with disabilities secure 126 jobs in approximately 70 different businesses. Dick’s accomplishments are the result of hard work, his ability to listen to and talk with potential employers, and his gift to connect with people. While customized employment is a newer concept in supporting people with disabilities, Dick has been doing this for years. His focus has been on seeking job opportunities for individuals that fit their interests, strengths, and natural supports. Thank you Dick for all of your hard work!
