Adrienne is a Developmental Therapist, specializing in Early Intervention and has worked for DSC for about 6 years. She makes home visits, works with families, specifically in regards to delays. She can assist with all types of delays, including speech and motor. She provides weekly services to families based on the services goals that have been established.
Another therapy Adrienne is certified in, is PLAY Project. She is a Certified Home Consultant through the program, meaning she is able to provide this service to families in their homes. PLAY Project is a therapy for children with autism that is typically offered through kindergarten. The program offers coaching and video modeling, and provides feedback for families, in addition to ideas that they can try themselves to improve social skills and communication.
Adrienne said that she loves working with families. She grew up with a younger brother who went through early intervention, which led her to this work. “The hardest part is when a child turns three and you have to say ‘good-bye.’ You build a relationship with the families and get attached, but many stay in touch, after we’re no longer providing services,” she told us. “One of the highlights about working in Early Intervention is that each day brings new challenges. You have to figure out how to keep motivating a child to want to work with you, and I enjoy that.”
Outside of DSC, Adrienne said she’s been busy remodeling her home and likes to garden. She also likes Batman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. She said this comes from growing up in a house full of brothers.
