Meet Cindy!

Meet Cindy!

In honor of National Occupational Therapy Month, we wanted to feature a much loved staff member who is able to make people’s lives easier and more meaningful. Occupational therapists work with people of all ages in a specialized and specific manner to help them live independently, productively, and happily. According to the American Occupational Therapy Association, occupational therapy usually includes customized treatment programs to improve one’s ability to perform daily activities, comprehensive job site evaluations with adaptation recommendations, performance skills assessments and treatment, adaptive equipment recommendations and usage training, and guidance to family members and caregivers.

Cindy, a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) at DSC, helps with acquisition of equipment such as wheelchairs and grab bars, creating exercise programs, and helping adapt work sites for those who receive DSC services. Cindy likes that as a COTA, no day looks the same, and every day brings a new challenge that leads to new solutions. Cindy states that she likes to figure things out and problem solve, and is able to do this everyday on a broad spectrum as a COTA. For example, through research and contact with vendors, she was able to get a wheelchair ramp attached to someone’s home so that they could get in and out of their home easily and safely. Additionally, as a COTA, Cindy enjoys the relationships that she builds with consumers and their family members. Thank you for all that you do and happy OT Month!
